I've decided that Manhattan is very bad for my book buying budget. Between the Borders at Madison Square Garden and Midtown Comics, I end up spending a small fortune when I am in the city.
Borders tends to be the worst culprit. It's right next to Penn Station, and I have a habit of arriving in town a while before everyone else. How could a book addict pass up the temptation that is two floors of wonderful books? It's almost become routine: Get off the train, text everyone to let them know I am in town and will be in Borders, go next door and spend a while browsing the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section downstairs, then head upstairs to the Young Adult section. If I'm there early enough, I'll have breakfast in the coffee shop upstairs while I read my purchases. I can almost never walk out of there without buying something. (Today doesn't count, since although I walked out without any purchases when I arrived in the city, I stopped back in before catching the train home to buy some that had caught my eye earlier)
Midtown Comics is almost as bad, but thankfully I don't end up there as often as Borders. Most of the time I'm just grabbing a comic, but today was an exception. I went in just to get the new Supernatural Origins comic, and ended up snagging the next four books in the Lucifer series. Bonus: several of them are signed copies, woot!
I now need to hold off on my hideously large Amazon shopping list for a while to let my bank account recover from today's spree.
